Yaesu FT-891

 The FT-891 is Yaesu's most compact 100W all-mode transceiver for shortwave. Thanks to its small design, the radio is particularly suitable for installation in a vehicle, but it can also be used at home. The front panel is removable (requires option YSK-891).




The FT-891 offers operation on all shortwave bands from 160 to 10m, as well as on the 6m band. The transmission power is 100W in SSB / CW and 25W in AM. SSB (USB / LSB), CW, AM and FM are available as operating modes. The receiver is designed as a triple super (FM: double super) and thus enables very good values ​​in terms of sensitivity and large-signal behavior. A 3 kHz roofing filter is installed as standard and ensures good close-up selection. With the TCXO, which is also installed as standard, the transceiver achieves a frequency stability of ± 0.5 ppm.




In the IF, the FT-891 is equipped with a powerful 32-bit signal processor (DSP). This eliminates the need to buy expensive quartz filters; almost any filter width can be set depending on the operating mode. Furthermore, this DSP also provides effective noise reduction and notch functions (automatic and manual). As is known from the large Yaesu transceivers, a 'Contour' and 'Audio Peak Filter' (APF) are also offered, which in many cases considerably improve the intelligibility.




The high operating comfort of the FT-891 all-mode transceiver is ensured, among other things, by the large and easy-to-read LC display. A large tuning button and a multifunction button, together with the pop-up menus, ensure quick and clear operation. Three buttons on the front panel can be freely assigned according to the user's requirements. A multi-colored display on the edge of the screen shows the current status (squelch, broadcast).




A CAT interface for controlling the transceiver is made available via the USB socket. The usual 8-pin is used for digital operating modes. MiniDIN socket "RTTY / DATA" and an external interface are used . There is also the usual tuner / linear socket, so you can continue to operate existing accessories with the FT-891. The ATAS-120 can also be operated on the transceiver. Other connections are available for REM / ALC, a Morse code key and an external loudspeaker.



As with most Yaesu mobile transceivers, the FT-891 also supports the ATAS-120A mobile antenna. In this way, a convenient system for worldwide mobile communication can be set up quickly. The antenna connection is a PL socket; the new automatic tuner FC-50 is available for convenient adaptation of other antennas. Alternatively, the weatherproof FC-40 also fits end-fed wires. The scope of delivery includes an MH-31A8J handheld microphone. The external keyboard FH-2 can be connected for convenient frequency input.
